The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
