Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
