Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were suspended after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
