American Social Media Personality Penalized After Large-Scale Electric Bike Gathering on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales authorities have levied a penalty against an American social media personality and handed out two traffic infringement notices for reported reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during peak-hour traffic on a weekday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A group of approximately 40 people operating electric bikes and motorbikes travelled along the primary roadway of the bridge, where cycling is prohibited. The assembly then turned around and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"There was potential for serious injury or fatalities," stated a senior police official David Driver on the following day.

Police indicated they did not immediately pursue the riders due to concerns for public safety but rather found the assembly at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the city gardens, at which point they broke up.

Fines Imposed for Content Creator

On Saturday, authorities announced they had served the American online personality known as the influencer, twenty-six, with two violation tickets for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a penalty of over five hundred dollars and three demerit points per notice, in relation to the bridge ride-out. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

The personality is said to have over 3.4m subscribers on YouTube and over 1.2m on Instagram.

Creator's Response

The content creator spoke with a local publication this week after the incident gained traction on digital platforms, saying he was sorry for giving "bike life" a bad reputation.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was one of the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he said. "I am a visitor here, and I intend to abide by the rules and standards of the city. When I decided to do a public meeting it was not meant to include a ride-out, it was just to greet people under the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and turns around, an illegal act. Or we reverse, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

Broader Context on Electric Bike Rules

The increase of e-bikes on roads nationwide has sparked increasing demands for regulation. The federal health minister, Mark Butler, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Young people have engaged in reckless acts on bikes ever since the early bicycle [but] the injuries that are presenting at our ERs are truly severe," the minister stated. "We must ensure we prevent these things coming into the country [and] police are granted the authority to take strong action, to take them away, to destroy them, to dispose of them."

NSW recorded over two hundred injuries associated with ebikes in 2024. However, in the first seven months of 2025, that figure jumped to 233 injuries plus four fatalities.
